Bruce Shapiro, winner of the Entrepreneurial Award

Born and educated in South Africa, Bruce Shapiro held various executive positions in the retail and finance industries and owned a consulting practice in trade and investment finance in South Africa, prior to immigrating to Canada in 1977. In 1991 Bruce established A.P.O.C Inc., a business development company specializing in the promotion of trade and investment between Canada and South and Southern Africa.

In addition to its business development activities, A.P.O.C Inc. is under contract to provide Executive Director and Management services to the Canada-South Africa Chamber of Business, of which Bruce is the President.

Bruce was the founder and is now President of MineAfrica Inc., which has developed and presents the premier African mining investment forum in Canada - the "Investing in African Mining" seminars - held during the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) trade show in Toronto annually in March. This seminar is now also presented in Vancouver, Canada and London, U.K. MineAfrica also holds the "Africa Investor Series" specifically providing an opportunity for listed companies doing business in Africa to present to senior mining analysts in Canada. Additionally MineAfrica provides business development and consulting services to companies with bilateral interest in Africa and Canada.

Bruce has taught International Trade and Finance at Universities in Canada and South Africa. He is active in African business affairs in Canada and is also a Board Member for the Kenya-Canada Chamber of Commerce, a frequent speaker at international conferences, and has an extensive network of contacts worldwide.
